Hunter's Moon

I overheard
this morning
when someone mentioned
the coming Hunter's Moon

Then anticipating
the voluminous dark
me walking quiet spellbinding silence
during a warm even in October

I, the prey
this night
in the net of
a full round goddess moon
searching within myself
filling an emptied larder with moonbeams
enlarging
my belly
with black empty air

What
I wonder
remains of ancient days
now past
when Humans better blended
with the raw night substance
before city concrete
squashed the meanings
beneath cold stone streets

Like the moon now
I, a hunter too
waiting and stalking
just what? hard to define
armed with my own past
experience my shield
during this lonely hunt
knowing from before
there is no answer but patience
when a hungry soul needs filling

A solitary quest
oddly enjoying solitariness
in search of communion

Me, the longing hunter
of diaphanous forms
my quest, still
seeking Magic

Hunting
